Communication is an essential part of life. It helps us express our thoughts, needs, and feelings, connect with others, and understand the world around us. For individuals with special needs, communication can often be a challenge. As dedicated Speech-Language Therapists, we're committed to helping those with special needs overcome these challenges and reach their full potential.

Autism

Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) can affect communication in various ways. Some individuals might have difficulty with verbal communication, while others may struggle with non-verbal cues such as body language , perspective taking, or tone of voice. Our therapy sessions for individuals with ASD are individualized and designed to address these challenges.

We use a range of techniques, including but not limited to unstructured play-based, structured tasks, and social skills to help improve both verbal and non-verbal communication. Our goal is to support individuals with ASD in expressing themselves, understanding others, and building meaningful relationships.

AAC (Augmentative and Alternative Communication)

For individuals who cannot rely on speech alone to communicate, Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) can be life-changing. AAC encompasses a wide range of tools, from picture boards to speech-generating devices.

As experienced Speech-Language Therapists, we offer one-on-one direct therapy services with the client as well as AAC coaching opportunities with families to help individuals with special needs. Our direct services allow our therapists to work directly with the child to help build confidence and competence with the AAC system and help the individual communicate using total communication. Our individual AAC coaching journey begins with providing education, resources, and input regarding different AAC options. Our AAC coaching programs allows for parents to discuss how to use, program, and implement the AAC device in the home environment. We work closely with the family and provide training and home activities suggestions to help families feel supported and at ease with AAC.

We also offer group coaching!

Our aim is to make the transition to AAC as smooth as possible and to ensure everyone working with an AAC user feels confident and comfortable with his/her communication system.
